EBC ATOM, Inc. was established in 1998 as the non-profit arm of Ebenezer Baptist Church “to assist and provide the needy with low to moderate-income housing, to provide funds for assistance with utility bills, and to provide food for the hungry.” When Flood Floyd ravished the area in 1999, the entire direction of EBC ATOM, Inc. shifted. EBC ATOM, Inc. came forward and opened a crisis relief center to address the additional needs presented by this natural disaster--serving displaced families and those dealing with the loss of property, friends and family members, as well as the feelings of insecurity ushered in by the flood. During this time of community devastation, EBC ATOM, Inc. served nearly 15,000 families.
The mission of EBC ATOM, Inc. is to provide a total outreach ministry of empowerment by identifying and addressing diversity with respect to the social, educational, economical, and cultural needs of individuals, thereby enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of the region, state, and nation. EBC ATOM, Inc. has a three-pronged approach: health, housing, and humanity.
Ebenezer Baptist Church, in conjunction with its nonprofit, EBC-ATOM Inc., is once again partnering with the Nash County Health Department in an effort to reach the whole community with COVID-19 vaccinations.
“When we were ambushed by the COVID-19 pandemic, many thought it would be a 100-yard sprint,” said the Rev. Thomas L. Walker, senior pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church. “But we now realize that combating COVID-19 is a marathon that requires us to work together to accomplish our goal.”
